Award party to announce the first, second, and third place triple crown winners is March 8, 6-8 p.m., at Joe’s Flat Iron Cafe in Skowhegan, Maine.
With three equestrian skijoring races in Maine, race organizers have signed off on the creation of a circuit point system to crown first-, second-, and third-place season winners in the Pro Divisions.
We are excited to bring current and future races together, creating a culture of competitiveness, sportsmanship, and community within equestrian skijoring.
Races qualified for circuit points: Topsham Skijoring, Skijor Skowhegan, and Skijor Bangor.
Prize money amounts will be announced once sponsors and additional funding has been secured.
How it works:
The top five teams at each individual race will earn the allotted points (see breakdown below) for their place. Teams will earn one extra point for each race they attend, and in the case of a tie, the fastest total average time (adding all winning race times together) will determine the winner, and the runner-up will be bumped to second place.
To qualify for circuit points, a team must remain the same horserider and skier or snowboarder at each race. A new or different horserider or skier/snowboarder would be considered a new team and earn their own points. A team may use a different horse in any of the races.
Skijor Northeast will record the points and publish place standings throughout the season.
Race points:
>> 1st Place: 10 points
>> 2nd Place: 8 points
>> 3rd Place: 6 points
>> 4th Place: 4 points
>> 5th Place: 2 points
Teams will earn one point for each race they attend (a maximum of three points).
In the event of a tie, first place will be determined by the average of all the teams’ winning times, and the runner-up will be awarded second place.
If the same horse rider and skier/snowboarder team compete twice (most races allow individuals to compete on two teams) in one race, their top score only will be awarded to their total circuit points.
We will crown our season winners at an end-of-year award party and soireé in Skowhegan at Joe’s Flat Iron Cafe, 6-8 p.m. on March 8.
